Wehrlein takes third Formula E pole position after Mortara spins in Mexico
The Porsche outfit was hooked up to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit in Mexico City with both Wehrlein and Andre Lotterer progressing to the semi-finals stage in qualifying.
Lotterer was defeated by current Formula E championship leader Edoardo Mortara, leaving the German frustrated with his effort, costing Porsche a front-row lockout.
With Wehrlein and Mortara going head-to-head for pole position, the latter was ahead for the first half of the lap.
The lap went away from the Venturi driver in the tricky, low-speed stadium section as Wehrlein gained ground.
With Mortara struggling for grip, he lost control of his car on the run to the finish line, setting a 1m07.373s.
This allowed Wehrlein to secure pole position - the third in his Formula E career.
Wehrlein will start from pole ahead of Mortara and Lotterer.
Jean-Eric Vergne secured fourth on the grid after losing out to Wehrlein in the semi-final.
Antonio Felix da Costa rounded out the top five after losing out to teammate Vergne in the quarter-finals.
Nyck de Vries will start sixth after losing to Lotterer in the duels, while Robin Frijns and Stoffel Vandoorne completed the top eight after being defeated by Mortara and Wehrlein respectively.
Nick Cassidy makes it two Envision Racing cars in the top 10 in ninth, while Maximilian Günther rounded out the top 10 in Mexico.
