Jamie Chadwick retains W Series title after dominating Austin finale
Chadwick went into the final race of the season in prime position - winning the first race of the weekend at COTA - to retain the W Series title with her nearest rival, Alice Powell, 10 points back.
Starting from pole position, Chadwick dominated the race, winning by over five seconds to claim her fourth victory of the season.
Chadwick is part of Williams F1’s driver academy, having joined the Grove-based outfit in 2019, retaining her place as a development driver at the start of 2021.
The British driver has enjoyed another remarkable season, finishing on the podium at all but one race this season.
Powell secured runner-up spot behind Chadwick after finishing sixth in the second race of the weekend.
Emma Kimiläinen finished third in the drivers’ championship after an impressive end to the season with four consecutive podium finishes.
Ahead of the final race of the season, Abbie Eaton and Marta Garcia had to pull out due to injury and illness.
In an announcement, W Series said: W Series made the announcement: “Abbie Eaton will not compete in today’s final race of the season after suffering a T4 compression fracture during yesterday’s race at COTA.
“Abbie is in good spirits at Dell Seton Hospital where she is being treated, and everyone at W Series wishes her a speedy recovery.”
Garcia’s absence was also explained: “Marta Garcia is unwell and will not compete in today’s race. Everyone at W Series wishes her a speedy recovery.”
For 2022, the top eight in the championship automatically qualify, while the rest of the field will need to re-apply.
