Di Resta: It was simply not my weekend

Paul di Resta's 2018 championship campaign ended in disappointment after the Mercedes driver missed out on the DTM title by 22-points to his team mate Gary Paffett at the Hockenheimring.

The former F1-star arrived into final weekend of the year with a four-point advantage as the championship leader ahead of team mate Paffett.

However, while Paffett took the title after finishing no lower than fourth during the two races over the weekend, Di Resta ultimately slipped to third in the standings behind Audi's Rene Rast after registering just four-points to his name.

Nevertheless, despite his disappointment, Di Resta was magnanimous in defeat and congratulated Paffett over his title success.

“Unfortunately, that was a disappointing end to the season for me. When you’re in the lead overall ahead of the final round, then you also obviously want to finish the season as champion," said Di Resta.

"It was not meant to be, unfortunately. It was simply not my weekend. Many congratulations to Gary on winning his second DTM title."

Di Resta's third place finish in the drivers' standings still helped Mercedes end their final year in the DTM in perfect fashion after the Stuttgart manufacturer wrapped up all three titles on offer.

"At least we achieved our goal as a team, the champion is a Mercedes driver. Many thanks to the guys for all their hard work this season. They absolutely deserved to win the treble.”
